VOLUNTEER ROLES WHISC
relies on a team of volunteers to deliver services; we have a range
of roles and development opportunities for volunteers. All volunteers
receive full training and out of pocket expenses. If you are interested
in volunteering, please contact us at any time.
'Drop
In Volunteer'
This
role involves dealing with members of the public who either telephone
or call into WHISC with various health enquiries at our Bold Street
Drop In Centre. The role includes helping clients find appropriate
health information and signposting to appropriate services where
necessary. Drop In volunteers must accurately record service users
in accordance with WHISC monitoring procedures.
Receptionist
This
role involves staffing the reception desk at the Bold Street Drop
In Centre. Duties include meeting and greeting visitors to the WHISC
premises and establishing the reason for attending. Receptionists
must accurately record Centre visitors in accordance with WHISC
monitoring procedures.
Administration
This
role involves photocopying, answering telephone calls, preparing
information for outreach sessions, maintaining information systems,
filing, recording post and typing. The administration role also
involves collating monitoring statistics and updating the database
which records the number of service users at WHISC.
Support Group Facilitator
This
role involves facilitating support groups which meet at WHISC regularly.
The groups that currently meet include : Eating Disorder Support

WHISC also hosts a women’s mental health support group, the
WHY group, who were an independently established group before coming
to the WHISC organisation.
Support
Group Link Volunteer
This
role involves being the ‘link’ person between support
groups who have no internal facilitator. The link volunteer will
usually ‘drop in’ to the support groups to ensure they
remain focussed and are working towards achieving their aims. The
role involves conducting regular evaluation exercises with the group
members and also meeting and introducing new members.
Health
Fair Representative
This
role involves attending various health information events at community
based locations around Liverpool and occasionally other parts of
Merseyside. WHISC will provide information leaflets and display
stands for volunteers. This role is vital to publicising the services
offered by WHISC
Fundraising

role involves attending events around the Liverpool area to promote
WHISC services and raise much needed funds. Duties range from overseeing
tombola stalls to public collections.
Outreach
Session Assistant
This
role involves assisting the Outreach Worker with delivery of sessions
delivered at community based locations. Duties can include small
group facilitation and giving practical assistance in the delivery
of sessions
Listening
Ear Volunteer
This
role involves providing one to one confidential support to women
who attend the drop in. WHISC volunteers do not provide counselling,
and the support is often short term.

Quote:
"I
was a volunteer at WHISC for 4 years. I was encouraged to do things
I thought I never could. I co-ran the menopause group, got interviewed
on radio, run a short health group in the community. My favourite
role was ‘Listening ear’ to women who wanted someone
to talk to and maybe some information - this I took pride in. We
all need to be listened to and Whisc is a place for women helping
each other, it has a wealth of information. I can honestly say being
a part of Whisc built my confidence and self esteem."
